Global Health Impact in JCI 8: Sustainability Becomes a Hospital Responsibility

JCI 8th Edition makes the Sustainability issue a great deal further through the Global Health Impact section, which reflects that hospitals can no longer see quality and safety apart from environmental impacts, basic structure flexibility and supply chain.

From CSR Activities, Couple Governance

Environmental issues should be addressed at the enterprise level. There are responsible, target, methods of tracking and reporting results. It is not done as a specific activity once without linking to hospital administration.

Procurement and Supply Chain play a key role.

Procurement affects costs, waste volumes, resource use and service continuity. Hospitals should consider suppliers, packaging, transport, storage and shortage risks together.

Green Operations Getting With Patient Safety

Reducing energy consumption, water or material should be done without reducing the safety of patients and staff. Good sustainability approaches must pass through Risk Assessment and results tracking. Not to reduce resource consumption just to get better numbers.

Infrastructure Resilience is a continuity of service.

Natural emergency, air-intensive, electric system, water or supply chain disruption can directly affect patient care. The hospital should link sustainability with business continuity and emergency preparedness.

Employee Engagement Makes Real Effects

The policy from the center will not result if the team does not understand what to do. Communication and opening opportunities to the agency offer Improvement helps make Sustainability part of the enterprise culture.

Formal starting point

JCI stated that the sustainability standards in the Global Health Impact include governance, tracking/reporting, employee engagement, procurement/supply chain, use of environmental resources, green operations and infrastructure/service resilience. This is clearly a sign that this issue should be managed in a comprehensive manner.
