Fire Safety and Interim Life Safety Measures During Hospital Renovation

Hospital renovation is different from the usual building. The building is open, there are limited patients to be moved and some fire safety systems may be temporarily affected. Fire & Life Safety administration must begin before construction work. Not waiting for a problem at work.

Make Pre-construction Risk Assessment

Before the work begins, it should be assessed whether the building area affects the fire barrier pathway, fire detection/warning system, fire-fire system, hospital area or emergency team access. This assessment should include both Facility, Safety, Infection Control, Clinical User and the subjects involved.

Interim Measures Relate to Real Risk

If the normal system is removed from temporary performance, the organization should set replacement measures according to risk levels, such as increasing spatial inspection, increasing monitoring, limiting certain activities or adjusting the method of infiltration. This detail must be in accordance with the relevant law and experts.

Contractor Control is part of Fire Safety.

welding, cutting, or striking/heat activities require clear control, including material storage, trail maintenance and prevent building area from interfering with the building system beyond the planned range.

The passing route must be really available at any time.

A correct map on paper may not be enough if the work page contains barrier material, door is closed or temporary markings are unclear. It should have a work page checking cycle and give the clinical team that uses the space to notice every change.

Patient Movement should be considered in conjunction with Facility Plan.

Some groups of patients cannot quickly infiltrate. The hospital should therefore review how to move, the accommodation and response order, in accordance with the conditions of the area between the construction. No reference is used in a planed condition.

After completing each phase to re-verify

The system crash or recovery should be verified before the area is activated. Including a review of whether there is a Punch List or any temporary control that is still understood. To prevent the temporary measure from becoming a permanent state without a tracker.

ICORP has both Facility Maintenance, Renovation Coordination, Project Handover and Healthcare Accreditation Readiness. This can help link work-based risks with the quality and safety system of the hospital.
